Justice

Fall on your knees and pray
While the crows turn the sky gray
Proclaim your repentance
And they pronounce your sentence

Cry to the judge for mercy,
In his omniscience may he see
Shall a moment of folly betray trust
What little left then go to rust?

So i return the jury's steely gaze
Still praying for the Almighty's grace

Mercy, Lord, mercy

The Fallen 04

We saw your ledgerdermain
We feast upon your remains
Upon us you do your worst
Upon you we slake our thirst

We laugh at ourselves
While in disaster we revel
Indeed it is true, Suffering builds character
From this there shall not be detractors

So we bridge the great divide
But ever nurse our hate inside

Easter

Remember the Creator in the days of your youth.....

Message today was particularly significant, and coming off the back of what i heard at SYG yesterday, seemed particularly poignant. Oh and worship was wonderful. Both yesterday and today. Perhaps it's the style, or perhaps it was just the spirit, but i just felt so wonderful, just singing and praising the Lord. Not caring about what others think, not caring about my voice (i was admittedly singing a bit too high for my usual range) but just pouring it all out for him.

And yes, we're all young and we're all striving away, but who's to say? Death can take us at any time. The human body is so fragile, you don't have to take biology to know that, and really, the smallest thing, the slightest chink, can collapse an entire empire. Remember the story about "for the want of a nail"? So we can idealistically get the picture here.

Death comes quick and regardless, indiscriminate. Remember the story of the man who stored up wealth on earth, and told himself that he would build bigger granaries, then he could store up, and sit back and relax, and tell himself to enjoy life? And remember what the Lord said: "You fool! Today your life will be taken from you. Then who will be left to inherit all that you have built?"

Truly, i am priviledged. Some people have to work to pay their school fees, and even then, even if they all seem so far away in good ol' ACS (I), it's still good to remember, to remember that we have it far better than much people.

And even more so, to all are given freely, the gift of God! Eternal life through the resurrection of his son our Lord Christ Jesus. Freely given, freely received.

So fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

From the top
Change your view
Defenses renew

Attack
Attack
Attack
And pile your opponents
Into a dead stack

Defend
Defend
Defend
Choose vain glory
Or your friend

From the top
Find footing unsound
And fall so far down

Friendship

In the interests of commonality
Have we brought about this duality
The occasional sublime mendacity
Yet respect more than royalty

Strange that something so temporal
Should cause such torment emotional
With its' departure and arrival
Signal troughs and crests withal

Well then enjoy it while it lasts,
Yet beware they do not hold fast...

Cynic

A severed head that proclaims to us
Death does come to all thus
What, is it smiling so gaily?
Yea, and not just briefly...

Aborning we are cursed
To live is grim and terse
As we are caught up in the race
Claw to the top; a fall from grace;

Bigger, Better, Higher, Faster, Stronger,
Yet soon all likewise lose their luster,
And when you think 'this shall be enough'
Yet work all your life without a laugh,

So when you're down, without mirth,
Ask yourself, what's it all worth?

Duality

Pain and pleasure
Loss and treasure
To ascend the highest peak
Yet stare at future bleak

To strive for that single shot
Ascend over the common lot
And risk disastrous failure
Henceforth in depression languor?

Else to remain in blank mediocrity
And to fade into ignorant obscurity
Forever let the memory linger
And think, what if you lifted a finger?

Indeed then onward we go
Indeed all we need to know.

Numbers

Inscribed upon paper; worth more than gold
Symbols ever so unfeeling and cold
Product, sum, quotient, remainder, total,
Yet ever to degrade our minds withal

And to peel each one painfully to us
For such frills and furbelows yet strive thus
Do we curse at our own stupidity
Or laugh as we rise with alacrity?

If only there were such a guide to this
How hence we should form a cabal of bliss
But as the winds blow, as we turn the page,
Perforce we store up for the coming age.

Loss.

At the end of 12 hours, and many, many miles of running and mental planning, schematics, and self-urged alacrity, 24th place and nothing to show for all our efforts.

Oh, and AC barker got 2nd place.
22 places between us.

Congrats to RG for winning, and heck, with top place for prelims and top for Geotrail, first place was rather ditto. Wonder how those girls all get so smart.

And you know what was most frustrating? Sitting there wondering what could have been if we hadn't wasted 15 whole minutes running around HDB hub in a frenzied panic looking for the auditorium which was just behind us.

最后,到了我们的终点,我们总算功亏一篑了。

Were the top in AC gep, and the top in AC geog, the overall 4th, the 6th or 7th, and a intelligent economist really worth so little? Let's face it, we were the best the school had to offer. And yet. Look what we were beaten by. 23 others. And some schools didn't even send their best.

So, is it really so hard to believe that we fucked up?

Yes. Fucking hell, yes.

[Edit] Just realized this song is extremely appropriate.

Skillet - Imperfection

You're worth so much
It'll never be enough
To see what you have to give
How beautiful you are
Yet seem so far from everything
You're wanting to be
You're wanting to be

Tears falling down again
Tears falling down

You fall to your knees
You beg, you plead
Can I be somebody else
For all the times I hate myself?
Your failures devour your heart
In every hour, you're drowning
In your imperfection

You mean so much
That heaven would touch
The face of humankind for you
How special you are
Revel in your day
You're fearfully and wonderfully made
You're wonderfully made

Tears falling down again
Come let the healing begin

You fall to your knees
You beg, you plead
Can I be somebody else
For all the times I hate myself?
Your failures devour your heart
In every hour, you're drowning
In your imperfection

You're worth so much
So easily crushed
Wanna be like everyone else
No one escapes
Every breath we take
Dealing with our own skeletons, skeletons

You fall to your knees
You beg, you plead
Can I be somebody else
For all the times I hate myself?
Your failures devour your heart
In every hour, you're drowning
In your imperfection

Won't you believe, yeah
Won't you believe, yeah
All the things I see in you

You're not the only one
You're not the only one
Drowning in imperfection

Game

To become bold from diffidence
To gain yet unfound confidence
In front of others do be sure
To apply the honeyed censure

Smile, even if incongruous,
Comfort even those nefarious,
Laughter be your face's lineament,
Those are your rules of engagement;

Misery becomes bad players;
And loneliness is a stranger;
And to question its' real meaning
Is an unpardonable thing.

However well you play the game,
It's all going to be the same;
And we call it by any name;
But it's all going down in flames...

Ants

Black as the endless night
That traps them from their sight
Crawl ever without sense
Into nests dank and dense

Where their Queen arrogant
Doth lie there faineant
Controlling little pawns
Obedient servile spawns

Yet ever miscreants
Thinking her redundant
Do strike out on their own
But to be overthrown

Still the war rages on
Many are dead and gone
Bodies litter the earth
Here you shall find no mirth

She pains for her children
Those of the rebellion
That all come back to her
With dulcet rejoinders

God is the queen, now no pretense,
Choose, but recall, we are the ants.

Sickness

Enervating pallor of life
That upon your weakness does thrive
Drains the world from start to doom
Till all is veiled by mirthless gloom

Before, to fall under it's spell
Was the sounding of your death knell
Waste away under gelid grip
Sanctimonious merciless trip

Now, to enter a arduous time
Tortured first and racked most unkind
Ignorant return to a gap
Ah, sly Kronos' unceasing trap

Perhaps then better, all the same
Dwindle and extinguish the flame...

Flight

The grass is always greener on the other side
Or so those detractors would like you to believe
Yet once you have gone on that long salubrious ride
You may as yet find that mellifluous relief

Perhaps all of us are utterly deluded
To believe that the prodigal son be better
Than one who has faithfully all his life labored
Yet finding that his nascent dream is in fetter

Or perhaps what they say is yet a purblind lie
That we should rather decide our own destiny
But if we should seriatim plan till we die
Yet perhaps it would be just so perfunctory

Why grow up before your time, from the nest take flight?
When the appointed time comes, each shall see his light.

Sayings

They say to keep your friends close
and to keep your enemies closer
And such that the sum, the gross
Shall be all for the better

So it is such that i was told
God said to keep the peace
And it is such a nugget of gold
Which offers fleeting moments of bliss

Ah looking at those that go before
Realize that I know nothing anymore.
