We erstwhile men
Grit our teeth and take our stand
Yet in our changing find
To have left all others behind
Was it even a race?
Perhaps just a blank space
For us to carve a small legacy
With small hidden mendacities
Now, lost we are in this ceaseless mess,
We stumble, rapacious for happiness,
Seeking a smile from those unkind
And thinking it better in the mind
Sitting now we take our repast
And though it is certain not to last
We gaze, smitten by the fires of our heart
A long-drawn high from Eros' dart
Recalling once that you mocked us
So for that, we did change thus
Perchance still we hear your laughter
And realise the cyclic disaster
For those who were once are now lost
Handshakes chilled by unseen frost
We remember now and we sigh
When no one heard the silent cries
So now they stack in droves
A Pandora's Box, a treasure trove
Of crushed hearts and bloodstained hands
Splashed on this prodigal remand
Yet we remember the statue of bronze
Strolling along the evergreen lawn
That goddess of youthful fun
Gleaming burnished in the sun
And we recall how we were slain
By porcelain skin and face so vain
While silent we held fast to that lineament
And drew glory from beauty's testament
So seal the order with an emblem of wax
Send it forth and do not be lax
It is now time to call forth the hoard
And cross through the waters at the fjord
With the victory at the battle
The war will test our mettle
From this new paradigm of light
We will arise and go to the fight.
